Sustainability

Everyday Responsibility

For us, sustainability does not begin with major changes. It is reflected in the many small decisions we make every day. As a family-run hotel, restaurant and butcher’s shop, we think carefully about how we use our resources and where we can continue to improve.

We also know that not everything can be changed overnight. Some improvements take time, require careful planning or can only be introduced step by step. But we remain committed and continue to make thoughtful choices wherever they are practical, meaningful and achievable.

This is how we put our ideas into practice:

🌞 Energy

🥕 Local/Regional

🍽 Enjoyment

♻️ Packaging

💧 Water

🛠 Repair & Reuse

🚗 Mobility

🌱 Future

Photovoltaic and Solar Thermal Systems
With our photovoltaic and solar thermal systems, we harness the power of the sun and generate part of the energy we need ourselves.

Pellet Heating
Our heating system is powered by wood pellets, supporting the use of a renewable resource.

Heat Recovery
The heat generated by our cold storage rooms is not simply released unused but is recovered and put to good use.

LED Lighting and Motion Sensors
In many areas, we use LED lighting and motion sensors so that lights are only on where and when they are actually needed.

Our Own Butcher’s Shop
With our in-house butcher’s shop, we can produce many of our own meat and sausage products and keep transport distances short.

Regional Food
We also source eggs, vegetables and salads from regional partners whenever possible, helping to keep delivery distances short.

Beers from Karlsruhe
Most of our beers come from Karlsruhe, brewed by Hatz-Moninger, making them a perfect match for our Baden cuisine.

Wines from Baden-Württemberg and the Palatinate
Our wine list features wines from Baden-Württemberg and the Palatinate – from regions close to home.

Juices from the Southern Palatinate
We source our juices from Südpfalz Saft, another regional partner.

Made In-House
Many of our products are made in-house, including sauces, soups and side dishes such as fries, Spätzle and our ketchup. This gives us greater control over the quality and ingredients.

Foodback – Complete Utilisation
With Foodback, our food waste is not simply disposed of but is 100% recycled and put to good use.

Fats and Oils
We collect used fats and oils and send them for further processing. They are used exclusively to produce biodiesel.

Seasonal Cuisine
With seasonal dishes on our special menu, we want to showcase what each season has to offer from our region.

Breakfast Without Excessive Individual Packaging
At breakfast, we use individual bowls for cold cuts, cheese, butter and other products, avoiding many small single-use packages.

Bring Your Own Containers for Takeaway
For takeaway food, we encourage our guests to bring their own bowls or containers, helping us reduce packaging waste together.

Reusable Containers at Our Butcher’s Shop
At our butcher’s shop, customers can bring their own containers or use our reusable Fresh Box. We also highlight this option on our website to make sure our customers are aware of it.

Tableware and Cutlery Rental
For private celebrations, we rent out tableware and cutlery, helping to avoid disposable products at events held at home.

Laundry & Textiles
For longer hotel stays, we normally change bed linen and towels every three days, helping us save water, energy and detergent. In our restaurant, we also largely do without tablecloths and use them where they add a special touch to celebrations and special occasions.

Refill Dispensers in the Hotel
For soap and shampoo, we use refill dispensers, helping us avoid unnecessary individual packaging.

Repair Before Replacement
Our caretaker repairs many things before they need to be replaced. It is not always the cheapest option, but for us, it is often the more sustainable one.

EV Charging
Our guests can charge their electric cars at our EV charging stations, and charging stations are also available for e-bikes.

Shared Company Vehicle
We have just one company vehicle, which we share. It features EcoBlue hybrid technology.

Shorter Journeys
Some of our employees live nearby, and some even cycle to work. My own contribution to keeping journeys short is simple: I leave the car at home too and usually walk to work.

A Team Where Everyone Matters
Our team includes people from different backgrounds and with a wide range of responsibilities. Whether at reception, in the kitchen, in service or working behind the scenes, every member of our team is an important part of our hotel.

Local Jobs
As a family-run business, we create jobs locally and offer people from the surrounding area a place to build their careers.

Supporting the Next Generation
We provide training and give young people the opportunity to start their careers in the hospitality industry.

Connected to Our Region
We are part of our local community and want to support the place we call home – through collaboration, commitment and personal connections.

Here for Guests and Neighbours
Many of our services are available not only to hotel guests but also to people from our local community – for example, our vending machines, breakfast and EV charging facilities.

Working with Local Businesses
For repairs, maintenance and new projects, we work with local tradespeople and businesses whenever possible.

Digital Invoices
We offer digital invoices and only print them when requested.

Paper Recycling
We collect our waste paper and send it for recycling.

Many individual measures may seem small on their own. Together, however, they reflect our commitment to acting responsibly towards our hotel, our guests, our employees and our surroundings.

We have not reached our destination, and probably never will. For us, sustainability is not a single project but a journey we want to continue step by step. We remain attentive, keep learning, continue to develop and are grateful to all our guests who share this mindset with us.

With that in mind: let’s get started!
