Our District: Stupferich

Stupferich – Karlsruhe’s “Village on the Hill”

Only nine kilometres from the centre of Karlsruhe, yet a world of its own:

Here in Stupferich, a district of Karlsruhe, the village spirit has survived – even though new residential areas have developed over recent decades. Local clubs, neighbourly life, and plenty of green surroundings still shape the character of the area.

Until 1972, Stupferich was an independent village. Today, it is one of Karlsruhe’s elevated districts – and, like several other districts, actually older than the city itself.

Stupferich was first officially mentioned in documents around the year 1100. Its name is believed to refer to horse breeding, which once played an important role here. And in fact, horses are still part of everyday life in Stupferich today – while cows are rather rare. We simply do things a little differently here.

Since January 2021, Stupferich has also been part of the Northern & Central Black Forest Nature Park – something we are genuinely proud of.

Around 2,800 people live here because they appreciate the peaceful surroundings, the closeness to nature, the open landscape views, and at the same time the convenient connection to Karlsruhe city centre. And right here – in quiet and green Stupferich – you will find our Hotel | Restaurant Sonne, right in the middle of it all.
