A few faces of the Sonne – they really are something special!
“Sonne” – More than a name
Our Sonne is much more than a hotel with a restaurant and butcher’s shop.
It is a part of our family history. A place full of memories, encounters and the people who have brought this house to life for decades.
In 1953, master butcher Emil Kunz and his wife Maria took over the former country inn “Zur Sonne”, which at the time featured four guest rooms and its own butcher’s shop. They laid the foundation for what still defines the Sonne today: warm hospitality, down-to-earth values and a passion for good food.
Later, Hubert Kunz, also a master butcher, and his wife Angela ran the family business for many decades with tireless dedication, shaping the Sonne with great care, character and personality.
In July 2025, Patrick Kunz took over the family business as the third generation. As a chef and host, he continues the tradition with genuine passion, staying close to the craft, to Baden cuisine and to the belief that guests should simply feel at home, enjoy returning and experience the same quality on the plate as in the atmosphere throughout the house.
What truly makes the Sonne special, however, are the people behind it. Our team is a warm and colourful mix of personalities who work side by side every day. We think that is something rather special, and we are proud of it.
And who knows – perhaps the story of the Sonne is already continuing. Patrick Kunz lives here in the local area with his wife and their three children. The little feet of the fourth generation may already be running through the house today.
The Sonne has never been a place of standing still. Much has changed, and some things have remained. For us, that is exactly what gives this house its special character: combining generations of experience with a modern outlook.
We are delighted to welcome you.
Your Kunz family & team
